2010 - Miss Kindergarten

My Fav 10 in 2010 :)

~2010~

1. Moving Out & Moving Back: The new year started and I hit the ground running! I moved out of my parent's home and into a 2 bedroom apartment with a friend. I was working full time as a long-term substitute, and decided it was time to start my "big girl" life. That lasted about 3 months and living on my own just wasn't working out. Luckily, my parents love me ;) and took me back with open arms. And I have never had a stronger appreciation for living at home.

2. Baseball: My favorite sport EVER!! My boyfriend and I went to Arizona for the weekend to watch a couple spring training games. Watched the baseball games {not to mention the players' cute butts ;)}, soaked up the sun and drank way to many margaritas! The joy of baseball season! And even though I cheered on the Angels AND the Dodgers {got me in a little trouble!} I'm still an Angel girl at heart!

3. My 26th Birthday!: My family and I went to Coronado Island and then my friends and I went out to Sushi. I also chopped my hair off!

4. 1 Year Anniversary: Tom and I celebrated our 1 year together at 5 Crowns in Corona del Mar.

5. Getting a Real Job!: I interviewed on my birthday {good sign!} and got the call with the job offer 5 days later. I got my own classroom!!!! Teaching the best grade ever!

6. Wheel of Fortune Auditions!: This may have been my most favorite memory of 2010. My sister, Nate and I drove out to Morongo Casino and stood in the never-ending line only to be a part of 1000 people let into the audition. They pulled about 25 names but we had no luck. As we were leaving the casino, the next phase of auditions were starting to line up. It was almost 8 pm and we all had work the next day, but something told us to get back in line. And it was a good thing we did! My name was the 3rd one called and I got to go up to the stage and try out! I country line danced...with my sister...and and solved the puzzle! Then I waited, and waited, and waited. 10 long weeks later, both my sister and I got an email to come audition in Culver City!!!! Best email ever! So off we went, in matching dresses and had the time of our lives! Still waiting to hear if we get on the show {it's been 4 months, do we still have a chance!?}

8. Talent Show!: Okay, this may be tied with my most favorite memory of 2010. The staff dance at the talent show was sooo much fun! I felt like Britney Spears dancing up there with everyone cheering us on! We are now a youtube sensation! Okay, maybe not, but still!

9. Blogging: My current obsession. Reading others' blogs about fashion and teaching and sharing about my life is so fun!

10. Last Night!: Going out to the dueling piano bar; dancing to Single Ladies; getting a free shot for dancing!; doing the Irish Jig; getting a free shot for doing the Irish Jig; hanging out with friends and laughing; the greatest night ever!

What a great year it was! Here's to good times in 2011!

Merry Christmas To Me!

I don't actually celebrate Christmas, so it's okay to buy myself presents, right??

First stop: the Dollar Tree!!!
My first time at the Dollar Tree was great! (I know, right?! I can't believe I've never been before). I was like a kid in the candy store! Of course, the teacher corner was my favorite. How cute are those palm tree cut outs?!

Next stop: Nordstrom Rack!

$19.97 less 50%! That's what I'm talking about!

I used my $50 Groupon that I bought for $25 back in November so my total of $50.99 only cost me .99 cents! Wooot!

Final stop: TARGET!

I love, love, love Target! I may or may not go there every day...and they were having some super sales!

These boots were $25

and this top was $12.50!

I can't wait to wear all of my new clothes! And apparently my current obsession is stripes...

Lots of Stuff!

We've had such a busy last couple of weeks, full of fun activities that I have been dying to share! And, this blog is motivating me to take pictures of my students' work that I need for my credential portfolio! So it's a win-win!

One of my favorite teacher blogs is Mrs. Carroll's First Grade Parade. She thinks of the CUTEST activities for her class and SHARES her documents for teachers to download! How great is that?! I got this game from her blog and my kiddos absolutely loved it! After I told the kids that I found a game for them and showed them how to play, one girl says, "Miss Maor, how did you know we would like this game!?". Sooo cute! I got the little organizer on sale at Michaels a while ago and finally figured out what to use it for!

In math, we're working on teen numbers and groups of 10. We made equations and used stickers to show the ten's and the "extras".

I wish you could see how cute my kids really are, buuut you can't!

And finally, the cutest project of them all:
Shaving cream snowmen!
This activity was great! The kids loved the fact that they were creating with shaving cream (and laughed hysterically every time I squirted shaving cream on the paper plate. Oh the joys of being 5!) Plus, they turned out so cute!

One more week until Winter Break!!

Why I LOVE teaching!

Kids are my favorite thing in the world! Is that weird? They could honestly be doing the most annoying thing in the world and I'd think it was cute :) My students made me laugh and smile alll day today! They are seriously the cutest! And they are FINALLY in a routine! I don't even have to say anything anymore, they know exactly what to do!

One of my favorite things about teaching is helping my students cope with their anxiety issues. For some reason, I have a lot of students who are anxious! Usually because something didn't go the way they wanted it to (and I fully understand!). I know that they will have anxiety their whole life (hellllo!) so I really try to help them see that what they think is awful is really not that bad. When they look at me with those "you're right, it really isn't that bad" eyes I know that I've done my job!

Oh my gosh, and I just love when my students relate what we learn to their daily lives. Today in math we were talking about groups of numbers in a park scene and finding different groups of objects. After we found the group of 8 and talked about the partners of 8 one of my kiddos says "7 students and 1 teacher, we have 8 people!" I about fell out of my chair!!! I love it!!

And I love that I can wear outfits like this:

What a magnificent Monday! :)

Some things to share

After I got my job, my BFF helped me countless hours to set up my classroom. She is truly the best! I saw a stamp on DJ inkers and was inspired. I tied the card to a bag of Sweedish Fish :)

Then, for my other BFF, who also got her first teaching job (woohoo!) I told her I was "beary" proud of her and attached her card to her favorite candy, gummi bears!

Last year, I got to work with one of the most amazing teachers ever, Miss Bagwell! She is such an inspiration to me. She was moving up north over the summer and I wanted to give her something to remember her students and how special she truly is. I had her Early Birds stamp their thumbprints with blue acrylic paint and shaped their thumbs into birds. Her Later Gators used green paint and two thumb prints to form the head of a gator. It turned out so cute!

My brother got married this summer! The wedding was so much fun! My mom, sister and I helped with the centerpieces:

I made that frame with a wooden frame from Michael's for $1 and hot glued some shells to it! They turned out really cute if I do say so myself!
I also made this card box for friends and family to put cards in at the Wedding:

And that was the last of my creativity! So now it's time to start again!

Take Two!

I tried to start a blog already. I got through about a week of blogging, and then gave up. It wasn't for me, I thought. But I then realized it was what I was blogging about that I didn't enjoy. So after finding some new blogs to follow, I became quickly inspired.

I have also been craving some creativity. I haven't been able to be creative in several months (weird, being a kindergarten teacher and all) and it's been seeping through my veins! So I figured I would be more inclined to create if I had someone to share my creations with. So here we go, again...
