Down on the Farm!

I have no idea why I am so obsessed with Farm themed activities right now, but I just can't get enough! I mean, we already went on our Farm field trip in February, and our Houghton Mifflin Theme 8 "Down on the Farm" was weeks ago! I think it all started with this AMAZING **FREE** Farm Fun Pack that Michelle of Musings of Me shared on her blog. WOW, WOW, WOW is all I can say! She has a ton of awesome units that can be used for pre-school and kinder aged students.

I've already printed out the fun pack, and then thought of ways that I can adapt the activities to be more challenging for my kinders. Michelle is amazing and gives detailed instructions about how to use her unit. This activity is meant to be a "Read, Trace, Make" worksheet, but I am going to just cut off the top card and add it to our word wall when we're studying about the farm.

Michelle also suggested to have students match the name of each animal to it's picture using these cards

To make this a little more challenging for my students, I'm going to cut the picture and naming word apart and have the students match them using their phonemic awareness and the vocab words on the word wall for reference. {and I just realized that I can do this for my Community Helpers activity I uploaded yesterday! woot!}

For this "Find the Missing Numbers" activity, Michelle suggests to have students find the numbers that come before and after the given number. I'm going to take it one step further and have the students write how many tens there are in the number on the left box and how many ones there are on the right box.

For this activity, I'm going to have my students use a top to spin on the work mat. Then, think of as many words as they can that start with the letter that their top landed on.

There are several more activities in this packet...I'm telling you I can't get enough!

Also, I got this awesome Directed Drawing Farm Animals book on AtoZ teacher!

Can't wait to teach about the farm next year!!!!!!!!!!!
