My Gingerbread Family

 It's barely December, but I was just so darn excited about my gingerbread activities that I couldn't wait any longer to teach it!!

We started our instruction by reading the story The Gingerbread Family {aaaand it's scratch and sniff!}
Then I projected a gingerbread man onto the screen and we discussed what a gingerbread man was made out of.
We talked about how a gingerbread man is the same and different from a real person and I totally wished I had a venn diagram to fill out!! I made one as soon as school was over! Looks like we'll be doing that tomorrow!

Then each kid got a chance to label and color their own gingerbread man.
Here's my sample.

I thought it would be fun for them to practice labeling the parts of a gingerbread man so I made another copy of the gingerbread man, with a word bank, and laminated it so my kiddos can write on it during independent centers. I also made several copies of different gingerbread men for my students to practice drawing in the art center. I can't wait to see how cute they all turn out!

Then, during math, we created our gingerbread families! My students were pros at this since we did our turkey family already ;) Again, we drew the same number of gingerbread people as people in our family. We used the labeling page as a guide to help us draw each gingerbread person. Then we used our counting skills to fill in the blanks at the bottom.

I'm thinking I will mount the labeled gingerbread man and the gingerbread family back to back and hang them in our classroom.

You can get your copy of the gingerbread activities at my TpT store. If you downloaded them before today, go back and re-download! There are now 16 pages which include the gingerbread man labeling for independent centers, art centers and the venn diagrams {with a boy and girl comparison!}

You can also get these activities as part of my Winter Games and Centers pack. I updated them today, so go re-download if you've already purchased!

  2. How had I never seen this pack before?!? I love it. I am not starting my GB activities until next week, but I can hardly contain myself. I am glad I only have 2 more school days because I am on the verge of putting on my GB apron. I always play the GB Teacher. :P I love your activities, I want to copy them. Maybe I should just go and buy you packet. :)
