My Blog-erffic Classroom!

I went to my new school yesterday to set up for summer school. The classroom was completely empty! I mean, it didn't even have tables and chairs! The teacher that was in the room this past year moved rooms and took everything. This was the 2nd classroom I've set up. My first classroom (you can see pictures here) was filled to the BRIM with materials and supplies as the teacher before me took nothing out! I've decided that it's definitely a lot easier to set up a completely empty room!

Anyway, here are some pictures of my summer school room. Almost everything in my room is from blogging! haha!

 I won this adorable calendar set from First Grade Fanatics and can't get over how cute it is! I adapted it so I can use it for summer school but I can't wait to set it up for my class next year!

 I love these days of the week tubs!! They are in the Target dollar spot right now!! Hurry, get off blogger and go get them before they're gone!!!!

July Words

I am so excited to be teaching summer school this summer! I am teaching Jump Start to 1st grade...getting my students ready for a full-day of first grade! It's definitely going to be a culture-shock for me as I'll have all 28 students at the same time with no aides or adult support! I start next Monday and it goes for 4 weeks!

Since there's going to be 1 of me, and 28 of them I'm trying to make my lessons as independent as possible! So I made these July vocab words to put in my pocket chart and have it available for students during writing. Feel free to grab a copy if you happen to be teaching in July!

Organizing Computer Files

Last week on TBA, we had a discussion about organizing files and ideas that we find on all these great blogs.

Here is what I shared with them...

Here is how I have been organizing awesome things I find on blogs (although it's still not perfect and still gives me headaches!)

When I see a cute activity or worksheet that is provided in PDF, I save it right away! I have several files on my personal computer and have them organized by season, subject and whether its a whole group activity or center activity. This way, when I'm looking for a math game for the summer I know exactly where to look! Saving files on google docs just confuses me, but I have heard that it works wonders for others! 

This is what my files look like:

 Most of the things I find on blogs are saved under "activities", "classroom management" and "classroom organization"

 This is an example of how I organize the math activities.

To save awesome ideas, I use Pinterest. I came across this website by accident, and holy moly, it's AWESOME! You have to be invited to join it, but it only took like 3 days before I got my invitation to join. It's so cool because you can make different boards (I have one for classroom ideas, summer school, cute crafts, etc.) and then you can "pin" a picture and give it a brief description. Pinterest automatically links it back to the source it came from, and it's also a great way to give credit to other people's things. Here is the link to Pinterest and here is an example of my boards.

I'm still having a hard time organizing the hard copies of all of my things and I get too overwhelmed thinking about it, so that's for another day!

In other news...I SURVIVED MY FIRST YEAR OF TEACHING!!! There were definitely ups and downs, but all in all it was a great year and I would not have changed it for the world! I absolutely adore kindergartners and feel SO lucky to be a kindergarten teacher. I hope that my journey as a kindergarten teacher continues and I would greatly appreciate some positive thoughts sent my way. I got some great advice for the wonderful Tamara and she has really helped put me at ease about not yet having a contract for next year. Any words of advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!
