Ladybugs and Ladybug Family

First of all, TGIF!!! This week has seriously felt like the longest week of the school year! Parent conferences and a field trip all in one week! Plus, we still have one week to go until Spring Break. Holy moly, next week might feel even longer!! But I certainly am loving all the fun things I get to teach for spring! Last weekend Mrs. Ayala posted the sweetest little ladybug family picture that she found in her backyard...most of you are aware by now of my themed family obsession! So I just had to create a ladybug family.

My students really enjoyed the labeling activities that I created to go along with the gingerbread family in December, so the ladybug family has a lot of those similar activities.

I started off by projecting the labeled ladybug picture onto the big screen and we discussed the different parts of the ladybug.
We talked about how the thorax and the abdomen make up the body.

Then I gave my students their own labeling sheet and had them complete it on their own. They did a really great job! Here's my sample:

Then we used what we learned about ladybugs to make our ladybug families. I had my students use thumbprints for the body because I was upset that we didn't get to use them for our groundhog families! But I'm also planning on putting the step-by-step ladybug drawing directions in our art center for them to use.
I always tell my students that they need to draw the same amount of "objects" as members in their family but that never happens...haha!

Because {yes, typed it correctly!!} it's Friday, and what's a Friday without something free?? You can click {here} for the ladybug family template free!

Next week we are going to read The Grouchy Ladybugand make a little ladybug craftivity/telling time book. Our math text is finally introducing time. {Like I haven't been doing that all along!}

And finally, we'll write about what makes us grouchy. Can't wait for that!!!

You can get a copy of all these activities at my TpT store and TN shop for only $3.50!

Making a Preview of a Document

Hi guys! I had a request to share a tutorial on how to make these fun preview documents:
I didn't have a preview for my new Ladybug Family yet so I thought I'd kill two know ;)

Sorry if I sound congested...apparently I have a cold!
It would only let me record for 5 minutes, so I had to go pretty quick, and it still cut me off at the end! I just wanted to tell you guys that once it's saved as a jpeg you can upload it to TpT or TN.
Hopefully it helped answer some questions, you can always leave a comment or email me if you need any help!

I have a love/hate relationship with the word because.

Actually...I tried to think of reasons as to why I love and hate it, but really, all I could think of was reasons as to why I hate it!
Reason number 1...I hate correcting worksheets that specifically ask to "answer in a complete sentence" and every most of the students start the sentence with because.
Reason number 2...I type it wrong every single time. I really think it should be typed becuase. How much easier would that make my life??

But, alas, it was a spelling word last week. So I figured, if my students are going to use the word, they might as well learn how to spell it correctly! Plus, I pride myself on the fact that I was pretty much the only 2nd grader in my class that knew how to spell it and was the "expert" when anyone needed help. I'm also pretty sure that was when I decided the become a teacher. Little did I know that the word would haunt me forever!

Anyway, I figured I'd teach my students a fun little diddy to make sure they are spelling it correctly. I didn't make up this song {although I am known for making up songs!} but I have no idea where I got it from. Have you heard it before?? Please help me out if you have!

P.S. If you haven't entered the Spring Giveaway yet be sure to enter!

Currently...Interesting...and Thanks!

I love Farley's currently parties. Except I always "pre-write" them in my head and then have to change what I planned because it's not so current anymore! Anyway...
The 3 words start with the first letter of your last name and describe what your students, friends and family think of you.

Enough about me, let's talk about my blog. Haha! Love that phrase! Anyway, I got my first "negative" comment yesterday. I don't know that it really qualifies as negative, but I sure know it wasn't positive! I posted some St. Patty Day freebies on my facebook page the other night {one activity that I made last year for my kinders and one that I made this year and plan on using with my firsties}. The next morning I got a comment that stated "that is not a core standard for K now". Sorry? {I added the question mark because I don't understand the comment!} I'm guessing she was referring to the activity that I'm doing with my first graders.  I went through the stages of grieving, I looked up common types of negative blog comments to see where she falls. Maybe she was just upset because she was so excited about my free activity and just couldn't find a way to fit it in to her schedule. Anyway, as you can see, I'm still not over it. But hey, at least it means I'm becoming something in the blog world!!

I also wanted to give a huge thank you to all the sweet bloggers who awarded me this week. It helps to remind me why I love blogging :)

These are some really great bloggers! Go check them out if you don't already follow them!
