Fire Safety Week

 Fire Safety Week starts on October 7th! How do you teach your students to be safe around fires? It's always good to have a plan! You can read more about fire prevention week {here}.

Here are some fun books to read as you start your fire safety week!

I created this fun little fire truck craft to help teach students about the very important "stop, drop and roll" rule.

Guest Post-Mrs. Wheeler & a Craft Freebie!!

Hello friends of Miss Kindergarten! My name is Megan Wheeler and I am a first grade teacher and blogger over at Mrs. Wheeler’s First Grade.  I have been blogging for a little over two years and I love it! Now we all know that Hadar is a crafting maniac, so naturally when she agreed to let me guest post, I had to give you guys a crafty idea!!!!  So here we go…..I like to display exemplary work so the class has a visual reminder to do their best.  I created these frames this summer as my display:

I bought 3 unfinished frames from Big Lots (around $6 ea) and spray painted them to match my classroom.  I applied about 3 coats of paint.  Once dry, I added some embellishments (ribbons, buttons, etc).  I hung them on the wall with Command wall mounts.  I hung the phrase “Picture Perfect Work” with cutout letters above.  Each week or so, I change the work inside and make a big deal to the class.  Students who have their work showcased get a certificate.  Please visit my tpt store to grab a copy for free!! Halloween Activities

Well, it's happened, the new blogger has been forced upon me and there's no turning back!! I feel like Kristin, driving on the wrong side of the road, and I don't like it!

Anyway, I'm super excited that it's almost October, I even made this fun pennant banner!

I am going to hang a different one each month!
I put all the banners together {so far I have August-December} and posted them on my TpT shop!

 {Side note: I am a little depressed that summer is officially over! I'll get over it in a few days, but in the meantime I'm throwing myself a pity party ;)}

I really like October because I am majorly obsessed with Halloween! It's just so much fun!

I've been pinning Fall ideas like nobody's business! Look at some of these cute ideas I found!

I've also created some fun Halloween Themed Games and Centers!

It includes 4 literacy games/centers and 4 math games/centers for small groups. Some of these activities can be used as whole group though!

He was inspired by Lita Lita's awesome Halloween clip art! I was so excited when she said I could make a craft to share with you all!

Mystery Word Cards- Behavior Management Idea

The beginning of the year is chock full of management, procedures and routines. Holy moly is it exhausting!!! Where would our classes be without them though?! I don't even want to know! So I was super excited to see that the lovely girls of WTTW {What the Teacher Wants...I just like acronyms ;)} are hosting a behavior management linky party!  I've got a lot of reading to do!

I also wanted to share with you a fun behavior management idea that has been around forever. I mean, I even remember it when I was in school! But it works and it's fun so why fix something if it isn't broken!? {Except of course to make it look cuter}

Mystery Words!

I used to put some dashes up on the whiteboard, hangman style, and fill in a letter when my students earned one. And then I saw this picture from Mrs. Lamb on WTTW's blog and fell in love! So cute!

{p.s. Mrs. Lamb is stinkin' adorable and I wish she had a blog! But she does have a fabulous TpT store so that makes up for it!}

I made some cards and hung them up on my whiteboard.

And then after looking at this picture for longer than 1 minute I realized how ugly the letters were and that I needed to fix them! {see...making them cuter...happens every time! Now if only I can figure out a way to add ribbon!} You can read more about how I used these cards {here}.

So over the summer, I spent some time making cuter cards!

I printed these directly onto scrapbook paper! Genius, I know ;)

I just love how cute they are! Can't wait to use them!

I complied them into a file of 14 mystery prizes so I have a lot to choose from! Printed, cut and sorted them into little baggies!

Some Classroom Photos

We've been in school for 8 days...woohoo! I wanted to share some bulletin boards that my amazing team teacher and I put up {with lots of help of my bestie Ashley. Thanks Ashley!!}

Our "Beautiful Work"

Loving my bulletin board border and cut out letters from MPM school supplies!

I've since added paperclips and student work to our board. Just slide the work in and out of the paperclips, super easy! Can we talk about how expensive scrapbook paper is?! I wanted to put some cute paper up on the board, but spending almost $30 on paper was not going to happen! So I cut the 12"x12" cute polka dotted paper into three pieces and taped it onto the yellow cardstock. I think it turned out super cute!

Oh, and then saw an ad in the newspaper that scrapbook paper was 6 for $1 at Michaels...better go load up!

Our Happy Hive:

Did I mention how awesome my team teacher is?! She's been teaching this class for 6 years so she has lots of tricks up her sleeve! This board is awesome! It has our students' numbers, names and birthday cakes up and in easy view. When a students moves away and we add a new one, we just replace the student name and cake and we're good to go! It's super cute too!

Job Chart:

We have another set of bees with our students' numbers that we will add to this chart when we start classroom jobs.

Calendar Wall:

I *think* this is my favorite bulletin board in our room! I think it might have to do with all the polka dots...maybe?! You can download that cute little welcome pennant banner for free at my TpT store.

Okay, I lied...I think this is actually my favorite bulletin board in our room!

I saw this on Amy Lemon's blog and loved it! {twice apparently, because when I was looking at my pin boards, I realized that I not only pinned it this year, but last year too!} Amy didn't have a template on her blog so she said I could make one and share with you all!

They're just sooo stinkin' cute with the ribbon and the smiley crayons! And I made the crayons all by myself! I'm pretty proud of myself! You can pick up the templates for free at my TpT store!

Apple Graphs and Glyph

 Shewie! What a week! We started back at school last week and I have neglected my poor little blog! I promise I will be back tomorrow with the winners of a week of giveaways! And I also have more giveaways coming up soon!

Songs in the Classroom

 I absolutely LOVE using songs in the classroom. I am not a good singer by any means, but that doesn't stop me! I always find myself signing! My students just respond so well when I give a direction to a tune! 

Last summer I posted about a fun song that I made up. It is included in my product, but you can view it for free {here}. You'll also see a list of other bloggers who use songs in their classroom. So much fun!

I've come up many more songs since last summer, so I decided to compile the songs that I use in my classroom into a file and posted it at my TpT store! It includes 26 songs to use in your class including songs for classroom management, calendar time and teaching vowel sounds, sight words, colors and more!

*Posters are songs are aligned with the color word songs so they are only provided for the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.
