Getting Organized! {new student bags}

One of my all time favorite things about being a teacher is preparing for the first day of school! We get to start with a clean slate and everything is just so fresh and pretty! I also love, love, love organizing! If I wasn't a teacher, I would definitely be a professional organizer! I've even thought about being a professional organizer for teachers! How fun would that be!?

I am moving to a new classroom this year and as stressful it is to move all of my things, it is so fun to go through everything and get it organized. {just ignore the mess you have to sit in while organizing ;)}
So far I've started to reorganize my classroom supplies with my new fun supply labels!

Today I want to share with you a fun tip I came across on Pinterest a few summers ago.
Everything you need when a new student walks in to your class on the 3rd day of school all in one place?? Yes, please!!

I created these fun little tags to stick on each bag and printed them on Avery 5395 labels.

As you are setting up your classroom for the new year, just put aside a few {I would say 4-5} of each item that you are using in gallon sized freezer bags.

Here's what's included in my new student bags so far {I'm sure it will grow as I go!}

Welcome to Kindergarten {editable template}
*"Welcome to Kindergarten" letter {download an editable PowerPoint version here. Make sure you click on "file" and then "download" before you try to edit!} I copy it on colored paper so it would stand out among the million of papers being sent home!
Beach themed name plates
*Desk Name Plate {part of my Beach Themed Room Decor}

Black and White library pockets
 *Library Pocket from MPM School Supplies
Birthday display candle
 *Birthday Candle {part of my Birthday Bulletin Board}

Labels for math and writing journals {freebies!}
*Labels for math journals and writing journals {download for free here}
I also printed these labels on Avery 5395.

*Mini clothespin for how we go home board.

This makes me so excited to start a new school year!
What else would you put in your new student bags?

  1. I freaking love the new student bag. I came across it on Pinterest in October and was kicking myself for not thinking to make one! I had 6 new students last year which was such hard work welcoming them in and forgetting little things to give them or set up in the class for them. Love the stuff you have in yours!

  7. I love getting ready for the first day of school too! New supplies and new beginnings! I put all my new student stuff together last year but I didn't put it in a bag. Great idea! Thanks for the labels!

  8. I made these bags last year and it was a HUGE help when new students entered my classroom! So much easier to pull a bag full of "first day" items rather than looking through all your files to find what you need. I even added monthly newsletters and important information that I handed out to parents as the year went on so they knew what we had done in the classroom prior to their child starting.

  13. I was just getting ready to make new student file folders...but I think I like the baggies better. Why was I thinking about that today? Because I was trying to get organized and going through boxes of stuff to file or throw away. Can you come organize me?? I am in serious need of an intervention. Keep posting...you are inspiring me to get my butt in gear.

  16. I love the new student bag. My problem isn't so much getting a new student on day 3, but a student midway through the year. It would be great to have a bag with all the classroom information that I've sent home so new parents can get caught up!

  18. I did this last year but didn't think to put desk tags birthday essentials and some of the other stuff you did. Thank goodness my class roster stayed the same all year long (shocker!!!). Thanks for sharing.

  24. I also include the little tags I use to label their cubby, their artwork clothes pin, their clip chart clothes pin, their center name tag, their mailbox name tag, a blank Baggie book bag and the info that goes with it, supply list, welcome to school flip book...that's all I can think of right now :). Thanks for the freebies to make it cuter!!

  25. I love your new student bag idea....I think I will try it myself since our school seems to have a revolving door with new students coming in and existing students moving. Where do you find your cute and colorful containers? Also I have your "I'm done jar" bundle. I am having a very hard time finding the plastic drawers you have in your pictures. Where did you find those? Thank you for all of your posts, hard work and help!!!!!!

    1. I found the plastic drawers at Joann Fabrics a few summers ago! I know Walmart and Target carries plastic drawers, just not in the bright pink.
